A Message From The PMI Tampa Bay President
Letter to PMI Tampa Bay Members,
I want to thank you for the opportunity to lead your PMI Tampa Bay chapter as your President for 2017. What an exciting year ahead for our chapter, it is our 25th anniversary! I want to recognize and thank all the past chapter Presidents and officers and I want to specifically thank Michael Goscinski for serving the chapter as President for 2 highly dedicated years and for mentoring me to take on these responsibilities this last year.
Our chapter has come from humble beginnings of a few project managers meeting in the Bombay Bicycle Club (they are gone but we have grown) to today with over 1700 members. This makes us a medium sized chapter and one of the largest chapters in Florida. Size aside, we are the best chapter and we will continue to get better!
You may have noticed we are changing our location for our meetings in 2017 to South University (MLK and Himes, right across from 1 Bucs Place). This venue will help us reduce costs. We are doing away with the sit-down dinner and replacing this with either buffet style service or sandwiches and pizza style meals. In 2017 we will begin virtual meetings for those of you that cannot attend live meeting due to work/life balance. We will look to add sponsors and get resources to help our members that need employment. At our monthly dinner meetings expect to see companies with job openings, recruiting companies, resume writing help, career coaching, and more. Also look for additional PDU offerings before the meeting each month. I do want your feedback and we may not meet everybody’s preferences, but I promise you that we will try!
I hope to see 2017 as a year of growth and continued improvements. I know that we can continue to communicate to the Tama Bay area companies what we do and why they need Project, Program, and Portfolio management. PMI continues to publish research that identifies the benefits and challenges facing the PM community. If we maintain our role as ambassadors of the profession to industry in Tampa Bay we will grow by leaps and bounds. Look for new and exciting PDD Days and symposiums in 2017.
How can you help? Let me start that we always get more than we give. Volunteer and get engaged with the chapter. You will grow and learn more than you can imagine. I encourage you to look into opportunities to get involved, Start with a Director role and then become a VP. Learn about this great organization that PMI is of over 450,000 members around the world. PMI is the number one organization for professionals in project management. Attend a PMI North American Congress (Chicago Oct 29 – 31) or get involved and attend as a chapter leader and attend the Leader Institute Meeting in 2017 (Chicago Oct 26 – 28). In 2017 we will also celebrate the chapter 25th anniversary. More details will follow on our gala event tentatively scheduled for June 2017, but make 2017 the year that you commit to your chapter and help make it even better. I can’t do this without you.
Happy New Year,
Wayne R. Brantley
President, PMI Tampa Bay
