Veteran Spotlight - Chris Teodoro

Chris_Teodoro.jpegChris Teodoro was born in the Philippines and immigrated to the U.S. when he was 16, where he had to learn a new language, understand his new environment, and adapt to a new culture. He learned the words self-management, resiliency,  and determination very quickly. He also discovered how to set goals for himself and accomplished many, including a successful military career as an Army Special Forces Soldier. During his tenure as a Green Beret, Chris spent significant time running projects overseas and focused on building teams, community development, stakeholder buy-in, and, most importantly, forming strong bonds with partner forces.

Why project management? There are three things that he loves doing: working with teams (from small and focused to large and multinational), undertaking dynamic work, and solving complex problems. Of the many tasks a project manager does, one of Chris' favorites is bringing structure and order to challenging situations. This skill is something most Veterans have as they have dealt with the reality of making difficult decisions in time-constrained situations.

Chris has attained several industry certifications, including PMP, PMI-ACP, LSSGB, ITIL, SAFe Scrum Master, and AWS Cloud Practitioner. The best piece of advice he can provide to active and transitioning service members is to take full advantage of the many resources available to pursue advanced certifications and professional development or training. While transitioning out of the military can be daunting, anything is possible if you have the initiative, determination, humility, and eagerness to learn. In the military, we seek to understand the population and apply the appropriate measures to win their "hearts and minds." The same applies in the corporate industry, where you learn as much as possible about the company and role while growing your network and building relationships.

Chris is currently the Director-Military Liaison at PMITB, an MBA student at Syracuse University, and Tech Project Manager at JP Morgan & Chase Co.
