On Demand November 2021 Chapter Meeting

Topic: Transforming the Sport of Rowing for the 21st Century

The sport of rowing has deep historic roots, long-standing traditions and was originally shaped and influenced by a white, masculine culture.  Pressure has been building, demanding change in the sport and recent social justice movements have accelerated and emphasized the demands.  At the highest competitive level, the International Olympic Committee is seeking to overhaul the image of the Olympics, bringing in sports that resonate with the target global audience.  At the recreational, school, and college levels there is a growing expectation that the participation profile will fully reflect the emerging US demographics.

Meeting these challenging demands calls for excellent leadership, creative solutions, and coalition-building with diverse and non-traditional stakeholders.

Learning Objective 1:

What does it take to fully assess and understand the complete set of transformation expectations?

Learning Objective 2:

Who are the stakeholders that must be “brought into the tent” to assure the success of the transformation?

Learning Objective 3:

How do good business leadership and project management practices support the programs needed to drive the transformation?

Amanda Kraus, CEO of USRowing, will lead an engaging presentation on how she was able to meet this by focusing on excellent leadership, creative solutions, and coalition-building with diverse and non-traditional stakeholders.
